As Cambodia continues to function on a US$ economy since the UNO intervention (UNTAC)  around the early 1990s, its present fall in value has had the same effect here as elsewhere. The traditional currency of the country is the riel, now worth 4,000 to one US$. This is used locally in markets throughout the country for small everyday purchases.

Climate

There are three seasons in Cambodia:  a cool season from November to about the end of January, when the temperature usually fluctuates between  24 – 29º, a hot reason from February to May or June when the temperature generally rises gradually up to about 40º, a wet monsoon season from June until October. The rain which does not necessarily fall all day long brings a welcome drop in temperature, and this may be a better time for tourists than the very hot months of April / May.  Many continue to come from Asian countries.  The best period for westerners is the cool season November to January, when it may not be so easy to find suitable accommodation at an acceptable price if one comes without prior booking
